The typical artistic depiction of Jesus as white is a reflection of whiteness: the sense of supremacy that drove European Catholic and Protestant Christianity to colonize and “civilize” the world in their own cultural image. But Jesus demonstrated the opposite of whiteness by centering the marginalized Other.
