In July, we asked our community to step up, and you truly delivered. We set out with a clear, heartfelt goal for our first-ever "Start on the Right Foot" shoe drive: to ensure the children and youth of the OSC Food Pantry could walk into their new classrooms with confidence and pride. Thanks to your incredible and unwavering generosity, we were able to give away an astounding 53 pairs of brand-new shoes to local youth!
When we launched this initiative, we asked you to do more than just make a standard donation, we asked you to get personally involved in the lives of our neighbors. You signed up, got paired with a specific child from the pantry, took their favorite colors and exact sizes to heart, and hit the stores to find something uniquely theirs. The result was a beautiful display of intentional, thoughtful giving that reflects the very best of who we are as a community of love and liberation.
More than just footwear, these shoes represent dignity, care, and a tangible reminder that these kids are seen and valued by their community. We witnessed the immediate, joyous impact as kids opened their shoeboxes, discovering sneakers chosen specifically for their unique style. The gratitude we experienced was overwhelming, perhaps most perfectly captured by a deeply moving text message we received from one of our pantry guests shortly after the event: "Thank you. His whole life we were never able to get him such nice shoes. this means the world."
When we come together in solidarity to support one another, we create ripples of hope that extend far beyond a single pair of shoes. Thank you for helping make this back-to-school season a season of joy and empowerment for families who needed it most.
